We have been working on the schematic design for the Enatai Remodel. Our original feasibility study had different directions the project could take. While a reduced scope is still an option, our clients asked us to pursue a design that includes an addition with an indoor/outdoor room adjacent to the kitchen. Our design proposal includes a wood spaced-board plane that forms the ceiling and wraps down as walls defining the two wings of the house. The entry and stair occur at the gasket between the wings and are highlighted by water features incorporating the rainwater flowing from the butterfly roof.
You can see a little bit of our process in the images. The entire office participates in the design and we use both computer and hand drawing techniques. Drawing by hand allows us to explore different ideas quickly and tends to be more evocative of the qualities we’re trying to achieve. Computer modeling and photomontage let us test our success at achieving our goals and are often easier for our clients to understand.
